I will work as a resident in the framework of the Photoszene festival in Cologne. The residency will start with the 2018 festival in september. It will build up to an exhibition in the next Photoszene, in may and june 2019.
It is a very interesting concept: the partner museums of the festival have teamed up to each invite an artist to dive into their archives. This brings me the good company of Erik Kessels (NL), Ola Kolehmainen (FIN), Ronit Porat (ISR), Fiona Tan (NL/IND) and Roselyne Titaud (F). Check the website (right) to see who will work with what museum archive.
My collaboration with the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum – Kulturen der Welt was seeded more than a year ago, while meeting Lucia Halder who invited me. Lucia Halder is the curator of photography – the old collection and contemporary projects. She urged to visit quickly, as she had a team re-photographing and re-packing the original photographs of the archive. She was right to do so; my visit offered me a unique look in the transition of an archive in drawers in an old building to a contemporarily packed and stored (and physically less accessible) archive. The old building has been left for a modern museum.
